Norway’s Statoil is installing the first floating wind turbine - the 2.3 MW Hywind off the coast of Norway. The turbine is supported by a 100 meter long flotation device beneath the surface, moored to the bottom and connected to land by high-voltage power cables. (Source: Bnet, June 9, 2009)
