Byron, Grant and Tory use the 2009 VW Jetta TDI to explore whether modern diesel engines still smell and make lots of noise.
The Mythbusters team used the 2009 VW Jetta TDI to test the myths. What did they find? After measuring the sound of the engine, they discovered that at 80 decibels the Jetta TDI makes no more noise than a household washing machine. And with the industry standard big-sniff-test, they smelled nothing that upset their nostrils.
Discovery Channel’s Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara are out to prove or disprove the dirty diesel facts one action-packed mini-sode at a time and they’re using the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Clean Diesel to do it. In the six part “Diesel Diaries” series Tori, Kari and Grant will be putting the 2009 Green Car of the Year to the ultimate test, determining once and for all whether today’s Clean Diesels really are the clean, fast and fuel efficient choice.
Kari challenged Tory on the cleanliness of the Jetta TDI, but with help from Grant and his C02 detector, the Mythbusters proved the dirty-diesel-days are a thing of the past.
