A deal has been reached that will have NV Energy purchase power from a large solar facility to be built in the town of Searchlight, on U.S. 95 south of Las Vegas. Searchlight is the proposed site of a wind energy farm to be operated by Duke Energy. Terms of the deal with American Capital Energy must be given a thumbs up by the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada. The output from the plant will go to NV Energy’s southern service territory. The deal will help NV Energy meet the state’s renewable energy standard. The project’s completion date is targeted for mid-2010.
