Saginaw, Michigan-based B&P Process Equipment and Systems has recently published a patent for a continuous process that utilizes B&P’s Podbielniak centrifuge for biodiesel production. The process maximizes conversion rates and lowers overall operating costs while maintaining the industry’s smallest footprint per million gpy of biodiesel produced. According to the company, using a pod process and not being limited to any one type of oil feedstock, allows for diversification to soybean oil, waste vegetable oil, animal fats and algae. And, since identical pods are used for each stage of this process, there is a commonality of spare parts, further reducing overall maintenance costs. (Source: Chemical Online, September 24, 2009)
